Velma N. (Ireland) Anctil, 84, of Somersworth, died April 6, 2011.
She was born April 14, 1926 in Cannan, Maine, the daughter of Herbert and Fern (Kearney) Ireland.
Velma retired after 37 years as a bookkeeper/office manager for several area automobile dealerships. She enjoyed crafts, painting, floral arrangements, quilting, writing and helping friends.
Her love for traveling took her to Okinawa, Japan, Ireland and most of the United States.
She married Air Force Capt. Laurence E. Anctil May 31, 1946. Capt. Anctil was reported missing in action in the Korean War Jan. 27, 1951.
She is survived by three children, Conrad L. Anctil, and fiancee Karen Tanguay-Martel, Charles H. Chick and wife Diane, and Susan C. Fontaine and husband Norman; stepchildren, John E. Chick Jr. and his wife Anna, Judy (Chick) Czarnecki and her husband, Don; grandchildren, Scott C. Anctil and wife Judy, Nicole Anctil Soucy and husband Gary Devon, Shelby Chick, Alan and Andrea Fontaine; great-grandchildren, Cierra, Breanna and Alyvia Anctil, David and Paige Brenner, Jenna and Leah Soucy; also several step grandchildren; and her sister, Phyllis Ireland Parks; sisters-in-law Pat Ireland and Linda Ireland; along with several nieces and nephews.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Laurence E. Anctil, companion John E. Chick Sr.; brothers Chadley H. Ireland and Dwain Ireland; sister Audrey O'Neal; sister-in-law Katie Ireland; brother-in-law Anthony O'Neal.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 28 at 11 a.m. at the family lot in Forest Glade Cemetery, Somersworth.
