Cletis Vernon Imel, 82, of Amarillo died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010.

Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Valleyview Nazarene Church. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Cletis Imel was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Wirt, Okla., to Arthur and Lillie Imel. He graduated from White Deer High School and attended West Texas State University. He was a longtime member of Valleyview Nazarene and received the Distinguished Service Award. He was involved in a number of church activities, which included Sunday school superintendant, senior adult leader, youth director and church board. He received the AISD Bob Ashworth Award and founded the Nazarene slow pitch softball league in Amarillo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalie; a son, Jerry Imel and wife Bobbi of Amarillo; a daughter, Connie Whitehead and husband Richard of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Chris Imel and wife Sarah and Kendra McLaughlin and husband Heath; and two great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Tucker.

The family suggests memorials be to Hope Music Ministry, in care of Valleyview Nazarene, 7601 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79110; or Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.
