Rudean Lajuan Carothers, age 83, of Granite, passed away early Friday morning, August 15, 2014, at Sayre Memorial Hospital, in Sayre, Oklahoma.

Rudean was born in Sayre, Oklahoma on April 17, 1931, to Othor State and Mary (Stevens) Hunt. Moving to Granite as a teenager, Rudean graduated from Granite School in 1950. Before her senior year, she married the love of her life, Edwin Ray Carothers, on March 19, 1949, in Wellington, Texas. They spent the next sixty-two wonderful years together before his death on September 25, 2011. After their marriage, they established their first home in Granite. They later moved to Odessa, Texas, Grants, New Mexico, La Harbra, California and then back to Grants. In 1962, the family moved back to Granite where they bought the Conoco Service Station and later added the Mini Mart. In 1984, they sold the Conoco and began buying and remodeling houses to rent.

Rudean was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, and Sunday school teacher. She worked part-time at Juanita’s Flowers and various other local florists while caring for her family and their needs. Rudean was avid sports fans, rarely missing her children and grandchildren’s events. A devoted wife and a loving mother, Rudean enjoyed sewing, fishing, cooking, painting, gardening and caring for her family, especially, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Rudean was Preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Lee, Babe, Dale and Rita; two brothers Desmond and Othor State, Jr., (Sonny) and her husband, Ray. She is survived by her five children, Debra Caid and husband Skip, Sue Hahn and husband Larry, Brenda Petzold and husband Billy, Teresa Zachary and husband David and Rusty Carothers, all of Granite; eleven grandchildren, Wendy and Ryanb Sites, Mandy and Alan Jefferson, Cindy and Jeremy Rogers, Justin and Amity Hahn, Andy and Tammy Hahn, Aaron and Karen Zachary, Braden Petzold, Chase Caid, Kaeli and Riley Ridling and Darian Carothers; eleven great grandchildren; one sister Sharron Jones along with many other friends and relatives.

Funeral services for Rudean Carothers will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2014, at the Granite First Baptist Church with Pastor David Hogg officiating. Interment will follow at the Granite Rock Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Granite.

The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home, in Granite, on Sunday from 4-5 p.m.
