The death of Mr. Cephas B. Hunt at Oklahoma City on September 30th marks the passing of an old resident of Perry, he having made the run at the Cherokee opening and through purchase of the claim settled on what is known as the Augustine place. Later he sold this place and engaged in the mercantile business, at one time being associated with C.A. Smith in running the up to date grocery. He also served three years as office deputy U.S. Marshal under Harry Thompson and W.B. Fossett in Guthrie. Mr. Hunt was born in Milton, Massachusetts, May 20, 1844, about ten years later his family moved to Illinois. The Civil War coming on he enlisted in 1862 with Company I., 112th Illinois Regiment, serving until the close of the war. In 1867 he married Sue A. Cady of Geneseo, Illinois and the following year they removed to Iowa where they resided for twenty six years, and where three children were born. They are Dr. Fred M. Hunt of Los Angeles, California; Allan F. Hunt of San Fransisco, California and Mrs. Fred M. Gum of Oklahoma City. After residing in Perry for thirteen years Mr. and Mrs. Hunt moved to Oklahoma City but have since spent many years in Southern California. Mrs. Hunt passed away in 1918. Mr. Hunt was a charter member of Homer C. Jones Post #43 of Perry, serving one year as adjutant and one year as commander. He died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Gum, after a brief illness following convalescence from an operation. Funeral services were held at the home on October 4th.

Funeral services for C.B. Hunt, 78 years old, who died Saturday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred S. Gum, 863 W. 16th street, will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. Phil C. Baird, pastor of the ___ Presbyterian church, 9th street & Robinson avenue, will officiate.
Hunt was a veteran of the Civil war, having served with the 112th Illinois Volunteer infantry. He is survived by Mrs. Gum and two sons, Dr. Fred M. Hunt of Los Angeles, and Allen E. Hung of San Francisco, Cal. Burial will be at Fairlawn cemetery.

Gum, 803 W. 16th street, will be held at the family home at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Phil C. Baird, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Burial will be in Fairlawn cemetery.
