"EXHAUST FUMES IN GARAGE KILL MAN
Alva Hunt Dies From Monoxide Poisoning As He Warms Car Motor
Stricken with carbon monoxide fumes in a garage at the rear of his home, Alva Hunt, age thirty-seven, 3173 North Sherman Drive, died today before help arrived. His body was found by his widow, who said he went to the garage about 5:30 A.M. to go to work at a filling station, and that she became alarmed when she did not see him back the car into the driveway. She said he had been in the garage nearly thirty minutes before she investigated. A family physician was called and pronounced him dead.
Detectives Mangus and Ball, making a preliminary examination, said the death appeared to be accidental. The side garage door was open about a foot, and Hunt's body was slumped close to the large doors near the tail pipe. It was believed he had climbed into the car to warm the motor, and then had been stricken as he alighted to open the doors.
Mrs. Hunt said he was in good spirits when he left the house, and that they had planned to attend a New Year eve's party tonight. She said that he was employed steadily and had no reason for wishing to end his life. It was understood a verdict of accidental death would be returned following a checkup by the coroner's office. Hunt lived with his wife and his mother, Mrs. Mary Hunt, age seventy-seven."
