Myrna Jean Brandt, age 83, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on March 13, 2017. She was born in Sidney, Montana, on July 29th, 1933, to Chris and Lula Hundtoft. The only daughter of a large family, she had eight brothers, six older and two younger. Sunday services at Pella Lutheran Church in Sidney, Montana were a priority for this family. That meant a week of work for Myrna and her mom to make sure white shirts were washed and ironed for the boys, and a large meal hot and ready for after church. She learned at an early age that the Day of Rest meant a whole lot of work for the women of the house!

At the young age of seven, Myrna was diagnosed with a brain tumor and travelled with her Mom to Minnesota for surgery. Brain surgery was largely uncharted territory in 1940, but hers was an amazing success, and she recovered fully. She would often say, “The Lord saved me so that I could serve others”, or “Saved to serve!”. Service to others was unquestionably her special gift, and people from all over the world will remember receiving love through any gracious means she could conceive, often homemade bread and cinnamon rolls.

In 1951, she graduated from high school, and her family moved from the 70 acre farm near Sidney, Montana to

Portland, Oregon. Once there, she entered a nursing program at Immanuel Hospital, graduating in 1955. For seven years, she worked as an RN both in Portland and in Sidney Montana.

In 1962 she married Vernon Edward Brandt and moved to Sheridan Oregon, where she lived until her death. The Brandts were lifelong members of Trinity Lutheran Church; Myrna contributed to that community by teaching Bethel Classes, making communion bread, baking for countless events, and sewing banners. Creativity and generosity characterized all of Myrna’s long and steady ministry.

She was also an incomparable homemaker. Her three children: Nathan, Rachel and David were welcomed with cheerful song and freshly baked cookies nearly every day after school, to be enjoyed between lovingly packed lunches at noon and thoughtfully prepared feasts for dinner. Her home was also always open to others. She was always on the lookout for someone to help; she had this servant’s heart simply because she loved Jesus more than anyone or anything, and wanted to be His hand extended to aid with each need she encountered. In her later years, as she felt her capacity to help others waning, her longing to be with Jesus increased greatly.

Myrna is preceded in death by her son Nathan and her husband Vernon. She is survived by her two children; Rachel Brandt Berg of Belfair, Washington, and David Brandt of Sheridan, Oregon, along with 10 granddaughters and 2 grandsons. Four of her brothers; Don Hundt of Mansfield Connecticut, Jerry Hundtoft of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Casper Hundtoft of Port Hadlock, Wa, and Neil Hundtoft of Salem, Oregon also survive her. She will be greatly missed! Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, Sheridan Oregon or Turning Point Ministry, PO Box 3838 San Diego, CA 92163 or online at www.davidjeremiah.org
