Doris Bell Hanes, 75, died Friday, April 3, 2009, at her residence, 33101 State Highway 77, Centerville, following an illness of eight months.
Born in Meadville on Sept. 5, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Raymond Humes and Ruth Mae Kelly Humes. On Aug. 1, 1959, she married Lawrence Daniel Humes and he survives.

She lived in Little Cooley since 1986. Mostly a homemaker, in years past she worked briefly at Penn Union in Edinboro; and at The Riverside Inn and the Golden Living Center nursing home, both in Cambridge Springs. She enjoyed flower gardening, bingo, and playing cards with her family and friends.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include five daughters, Doris Lalone and her husband, Michael, of McKean, Sherry Lalone of Erie, Debbie Higley and her companion, Jim Weaver, of Fairview, Connie Hanes of Saegertown, and Donna Allen and her husband, David, of Cambridge Springs; two sons, Donald Humes and his wife, Cherie Marie, of Tryonville and Daniel Hanes of Centerville; three sisters, Norma Peters of Erie, Ruth Weigle of North East and Pearl Peters of Cambridge Springs; four brothers, Delroy Humes of Edinboro, Kenneth Humes and his wife, Doris, of Waterford; Victor Humes and his wife, Linda, of Edinboro, and Charles Humes and his wife, Janet, of Cambridge Springs; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sue Hanes; a son, Fred Lalone Jr.; five grandchildren, Eric Allen Hanes, Billy Higley, Dennis Hanes, Gregory Stafford and Damon Higley; three sisters, Pauline Pulling, Genevieve Scarborough and Ethel Sanders; and four brothers, Oscar Humes, Robert Humes, Raymond Humes Jr. and Gary Humes.

Calling hours are Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Van Matre Family Funeral Home, 335 Venango Ave., Cambridge Springs. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ronald Kennedy, pastor of Draketown Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Miller Station Cemetery, Rockdale Township.
