Birth: Feb. 29, 1844
Maine, USA
Death: Sep. 16, 1917
Klickitat County
Washington, USA

Marriage: 1 Nov 1882 - Mahaska, Iowa, USA
Parents: Ivory Elijah Fenderson, Lydia Clements

Elizabeth H. Huit established the Huit Post Office in her home on Juniper Canyon Road, April 13, 1903 and discontinued service in December 31, 1908. The area was then serviced by the Bickleton Post Office. Members of the Huit family went to Jersey, nine miles to the NW for their mail until the route began delivery to Huit. The Huit Post Office served about 20 families. Mrs. Huit, submitted two names for the office, beside Huit the preferred name of Ruby was also suggested; it is not noted why Mrs. Huit submitted this name.

She married Nathan Huit and had nine children, eight survived. She and Nathan lived in Iowa with their eight children at the time of the 1880 Federal Census. By 1885, it appears she was widowed and had been remarried to Enos Wright. their household listed six of the Huit children and a Wright child. Resuming the Huit name, Elizabeth along with her three sons, Charles, Calvin and Irvin, and two grandchildren went to Nebraska.

It seems that Elizabeth and her family found their way to Klickitat County at some date between 1900-1903. The newspaper, Goldendale Sentinel, Aug 28, 1908 - headline Fire At Huit the residence of Mrs. E. H. Huit burned last Saturday and almost all contents were destroyed. The post office was in this building and about all the mail that was in the office was burned. There was no insurance on either the building or contents.

After the fire destroyed her home, she must have moved into the home of her son Calvin in the Gaunt area. Calvin, his mother, his young niece and two young nephews were living in the household.
