OELWEIN - Katherine Dorothy Bridges, 91, died Wednesday afternoon, July 10, 2002, at Grandview Health Care Center, Oelwein, after a brief illlness. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at first Baptist Church, Oelwein with the Rev. Stan Gill officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, south of Oelwein. Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. today at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and after 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. She was born Jan. 2, 1911, at Bennett, Colo., the daughter of Welva and Bothilde (Toft) Hughson. She attended school in Colorado and then in Oelwein. Katherine married Fred Cecil Bridges on May 23, 1929, at Oelwein. They lived in Missouri and Colorado, then moved back to Iowa, where they farmed in the Oelwein and Sumner areas for many years. Katherine moved from the farm to Oelwein in 1985. She was a member of the First Baptist church in Oelwein. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, sewing and reading. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She greatly enjoyed all of the family reunions and her friends. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis (LaVerne) Lentz of Aurora and Patricia (Loyd) Froning of Hazleton; on son, Darrel (Pat) Bridges of Altoona; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grancheildren; and one sister Doris Whitaker of Oelwein. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred, on June 26, 1984; an infant son, Charles Robert and a son, Delbert; seven brothers, LeRoy, Nels, Fred, Norbert, Glen, Clyde and Wayne; and a sister, Lucille. A memorial fund has been established
