Bronson, Iowa – Addie Barber-Kyle, 88, of Sergeant Bluff, formerly of Bronson, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, in Sioux City following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, with Dr. Robert Peters officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Barber-Kyle was born Oct. 11, 1913, in Lebanon, Mo., the daughter of Albert and Addie (McAndrews) Hughes. She was raised in Lebanon.
She married Rex T. Barber on June 7, 1928, in Lebanon. The couple later moved to Iowa and farmed in the Oto, Iowa, area for a number of years. They moved to Bronson in 1950. Mr. Barber died April 3, 1983, after 54 years of marriage. She married Leonard "Max" Kyle on Sept. 16, 1989. He passed away Aug. 29, 2000. She was an Avon representative and earned many awards in her 44 years of selling Avon.
She was a member of Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church in Bronson. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and dancing, for which she won many awards when she was younger. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for her family.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis L. Barber and his fiancée, Cathy Wolfe of Bronson, Rex D. and his wife, Mary of Smithland, Iowa, and Gordon Barber and his wife, Karen of Sioux City; three daughters and their husbands, Betty and Guiles Green and Patricia and Pat Parks, all of Sergeant Bluff, and Karen and Mike Pearson of Lawton, Iowa; a stepson and his wife, Earl and Lynn Kyle of St. Cloud, Minn.; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Kimberly and Steven Carlsen and Theresa and Timothy Hughes, all of Sioux City; two former daughters-in-law, Jeanette Barber and Sue Barber; a nephew, Estel Hughes; 22 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be Paul Parks, Guiles "Chip" Green, Rex "Brub" Barber, Mike Barber, Dan Pearson and Chad Barber.
