Hattie's father, Moses Hoyt, became a widow when his first wife, Harriet Newell Bronson died in 1865. Her mother, Hannah (Quimby) Harmon became a widow when her husband died in 1866. Moses had several small children at the time, so Hannah moved in with them to care for the home and children. There is an indication in Moses' military pension file that he and Hannah were "cohabitating". He lists all his wives and children, but does not include Hannah in that list. He does include Hattie as his daughter.

Hattie married Walter Erwin Adams on 9 Nov 1887 in Marshall, Lyon, Minnesota. By the 31 Oct 1888 when their first child, Louis Walter Adams, was born, they had moved across the country to Kent, King, Washington. By 23 Feb 1890, they had move to Slaughter (now Auburn) King, Washington and their daughter Elsie Hattie Adams was born here. By 13 May 1892, they had moved to Centralia, Lewis, Washington and their next daughter, Alice Mary Lacey was born. They probably moved her as Hattie's father was now living in the Centralia/Chehalis area. By 9 Feb 1896, they had moved back to Auburn, King, Washington where there last child, Leslie Erwin Adams was born. There is a family tradition that Leslie is not actually Walter's son, but the son of an African-American man who had been hired to work for the family and with whom Hattie had an affair.

By the time the 1900 census was taken, Walter was living at the Western Washington Hospital for the Insane in Steilacoom, Pierce, Washington. He remained here until his death in 1902.

Hattie worked doing laundry to support her family. She was also a big supporter of women's rights and fought against excessive drinking.

On 1 Dec 1908 in Tacoma, Pierce, Washington, Hattie married her second husband, C.H. Wilcox. I have yet to determine his full name or where the family was living in 1910.

I am unsure if C.H. died or they divorced. On 19 Apr 1911 in Seattle, King, Washington, Hattie married her third husband, widow, Francis "Frank" Marion Liming. He worked for the railroad and they lived in Algona, King, Washington. Hattie and Frank must have divorced as he did not die until 1926 and Hattie remarried in 1924.

On 1 Mar 1924, Hattie married her fourth husband, widow Herbert Bradfield Hughes. They had divorced by 1930, as Hattie lists herself as divorced in the 1930 census.

After this she resided on C Street in Auburn, King, Washington. At some point, there was a fire and her house burned down.

Hattie was ill for nearly 2 years before she passed away on 6 Aug 1938. She is buried at Mountain View Cemetery under the surname of her first husband, Adams. This is probably because he is the only husband with whom she had children, and it is what the children wanted.
