Col. Hower's Funeral Monday
Mrs. R.M. Hower, 604 W. Walnut, left Saturday morning for Quantico Marine Base, VA., where she will attend the memorial service for her son, Lt. Col. Raymond R. Hower, Salina Marine flier killed Wednesday in a plane crash near Battle Mountain, Va. [sic].
She was accompanied by another son, Max Hower, Topeka. The memorial service will be at 1 pm Monday. It is for all 19 Marines and Navy men killed in the crash.
Col. Hower will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Col. Hower was a crew member of the Marine transport plane which crashed into Mount Tobin During a snowstorm while enroute from Buckley Air Force Base, Denver to Seattle, Wash.
The plane carried a Marine amphibious warfare instruction team from Quantico, Va., which had been touring Marine bases.
Col. Hower was executive officer of a squadron based at Quantico. He and his wife, Joyce and four children lived at nearby Springfield, Va.
