George G. Hotchkiss
George Graves Hotchkiss, 96, a resident of 300 Kings Way Road, Martinsville, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
A career banker, he retired in 1981 after 27 years with the former First National Bank of Martinsville and Henry County.
Born Nov. 19, 1903, in Luxora, Ark., he was the son of the late Harvey H. Hotchkiss and Theresa Mooney Hotchkiss.
He attended schools in Mississippi and Tennessee and began working at the Bank of Commerce in Memphis, Tenn. He went on to hold banking positions in Los Angeles, Calif., Las Vegas, Nev., Louisville, Ky. and Miami and Miami Beach, Fla., before coming to Martinsville.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville, and a former member of the Martinsville Cotillion Club and Forest Park County Club.
He and his wife of 54 years, Margaret Turner Hotchkiss, lived at the Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg for two years prior to moving to King's Grant Retirement Community in 1993.
His wife is his only immediate survivor.
Friends may call at McKee-Stone Funeral Services in Martinsville from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Roselawn Burial Park with Dr. Dwight Christenbury presiding.
On March 29, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. in King's Grant's Victory Chapel. Dr. Dwight Christenbury and the Rev. Susanne Martin will preside.
