Born March 8, 1923 in South Pekin to Walter E. and Stella E. (Woods) Horton, she married Robert Earl Pfeiffer on March 2, 1940 in Burlington, Iowa. He died February 22, 1967 in Pekin. She later married Robert Dean Ball on December 23, 1972 in Pekin. He died October 9, 2001 in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Earla Jean Ramsey; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister and one brother.
Surviving are two daughters, Carole Ann (Michael) Bearden and Joyce Lee (Wayne) Alford, both of Manito; three step-daughters, Robin (Terry) Svendsen, Georgeanne Donath, both of Pekin and Cheryl Lynn Wernowsky of Armington,; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Virgil M. (Dorothy) Horton of Loveland, Colorado and two sisters, Bernice M. Burkholder of Tremont and Bernise F. (Leonard) Lacefield of Hopedale.
Virgetta worked for Cohen Furniture as a service clerk for 14 years, last working in 1973. She previously worked for the James Jansen family from 1957 to 1964.
She loved crocheting and making quilts. She also enjoyed fishing.
She was of the Baptist faith.
