Bobby Ray Hoover was born May 20, 1929, in Lowell, Kansas to Bert Edward Hoover and Oleta Southern. He was the second child of 5. His father was a Pvt 1st Class Provost Guard. His older brother George was in the Navy.

At age 17 Bobby Ray enlisted into the US Army for the Panama Canal Department in Saline, Saline County, Kansas. Soon after he left for duty, his family migrated west to California. He became active Aug 22 1946.

His younger brother Logan joined the Navy. His younger sister Margie had married John Franklin Lord who was also Navy. My father, Don, also wanted to join the service but his mom forbid it. She had already lost one son!

While serving his country, he served in the Korean War. He served as Sargent First Class Battery B 436th Anti-aircraft Artillery Battalion. He also served in Tank Company, 224th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry Division".

At the young age of 27, Bobby died in a Military air tragedy He was an SFC almost 10 years into his career, en route to Burtonwood England shortly after takeoff in Ft. Dix, New Jersey on Jul 13, 1956.

Bobby Ray was the first in his immediate family to pass. He was given the nickname "Hominy" by his maternal Grandfather John Quincy Southern (1883 - 1965) because he loved whenever his Grandfather prepared it.
