Velma graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing with a diploma as a Registered Nurse. She married Warren Adrian Hollarn, Jr. on December 5, 1952 in Oklahoma City and immediately began her 40 year Nursing career. She worked diligently for the first 20 years at Cyril Hospital and Anadarko Hospital. She then completed her next 20 years at Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha as Head Nurse of ICU/CCU. Many remember Velma as a person of high expectations as well as integrity. She retired at the age of 62 finishing her career in Surgery/Recovery.
Velma faithfully served the Lord at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Apache then at St. John Lutheran Church in Lawton. After she retired, Velma became a tireless worker in service to her church. She was an active Choir member and found joy in serving others. She loved to cook and could often be found in the kitchen. She would spend countless hours preparing the turkey and dressing for their Community Thanksgiving meal. She was also an active member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
