Avis H. Ayres passed away December 18, 2003 at age 98 at the Masonic Retirement Center.
Avis was born on March 28, 1905 to Mose Jefferson Holliman and Elizabeth Wilson Holliman in Kennedy, AL. The third of four siblings, she grew up on family farms in Alabama and Mississippi along with brothers Walter, Felix and sister Amy.
She married Bedford Ayres in 1935, in Steens, MS. During WWII, she supported herself and son, Donald, as best she could until Bedford was discharged from the US Navy. The family moved to Wenatchee in 1947, then relocated to Lake Stevens in the early '50s, where she was to reside for 42 years.
Bedford passed away in 1961, and Avis continued living in the family home, maintaining her beloved flowers and vegetable garden until 1996, when she moved to the Masonic Retirement Center.
She is survived by her sister, Amy Holliman Self; son, Donald Ayres; four grandchildren, Deborah McRae, Natalie Yonkoske, Mark and Steven Ayres; six great grandchildren, Jeremy Ayres, Nicole Goodspeed, Lyndsay and Mykayla Yonkoske, Donald and Michael Ayres; and numerous relatives in Wenatchee, WA.
Graveside service Monday, December 22nd at 10am at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Everett.
