MARY ELIZABETH BOYD "Libby"

On January 12, 2013 of Fairfax, VA. Libby was born on July 3, 1932 in Pawtucket, R.I. to John Forbes Hogan and Martha Sutcliffe Hogan. She graduated from Brown University in 1953 and began a teaching career in Providence. On January 28, 1956, she married future U.S. Navy Captain John Huntly Boyd, Jr. As a Navy wife she raised five children while travelling the world with her husband. They ultimately lived in five different states, on Guam, and in Sasebo, Japan. In 1976, Libby returned to teaching early grades in Portsmouth and Alexandria, VA. Following his 1981 Navy retirement, Libby and Huntly returned to their long-time home in Alexandria. They moved to The Woodlands in Fairfax in 2008. In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons John (Debbie), David (Terri), and Adam; daughters Sarah Blair (Hunt) and Amy Crawford (Neil); and eight grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Dr. John F. Hogan, and a sister, Ann L. Hogan, both of Rhode Island. In addition to her parents, Libby was predeceased by sisters Martha, Cappi, and Reenie. Friends may call at the Everly Funeral Home, 10565 Main St., Fairfax, VA on Friday January 18 from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be offered Saturday, January 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Fairfax Va.
