Ynona Faye (Hoffmann) Baumgardner, born February 9, 1930 in Lamont, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at her home on June 21, 2008. She attended junior and senior high school in Blackwell, Oklahoma, where she met her future husband, Marvin, who was living next door with his grandmother. After graduation, she attended the University of Oklahoma, where she graduated with a degree in home economics and a minor in business. After college, she and her mother moved to Berkeley, California. On December 28, 1952, she and Marvin were married in the small chapel at First Christian Church in Berkeley. With Marvin being in the Navy, she traveled with him to many exotic placed such as Japan, Hawaii (where their daughters Marilyn and Janet were born), Virginia, Adak, Alaska, back to Japan and finally back to California. Marvin retired from the Navy in 1968, and they have resided in Napa since 1965. Ynona worked in Accounts Payable for Sebastiani and Beringer Wineries and completed her career at Biagi Brothers Trucking. She went out on disability in March of 2008 after being diagnosed with cancer, and had hoped to return to work.
Ynona was involved with her church and various Masonic affiliated groups. As a youth, she was a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, and served as Worthy Advisor. She was a member of the Yountville Community Church, Silverado Chapter #189, Silver Spray Chapter #59, and the New York Ritual Team of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was never one to take an office, however she was always there willing and able with a smile to do any work behind the scenes. As a result of her labors, she was awarded the Rob Morris and the Service Award from the Order of the Eastern Star. She followed Marvin on his work with the International Order of Job's Daughters, again working diligently for them. The girls of Bethel No.185 of Napa honored her by presenting her a Member of Honor certificate. These traits of smiles, pleasant conversation and willingness to serve endeared her among those with whom she came in contact and she will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 ½ years, Marvin; two daughters, Marilyn Ann Diamond and her husband, Randal of Houston, Texas, and Janet Kay Werle and her husband Ronald of Yountville, California; three grandchildren, Hope Lynn Diamond of Franklin, Virginia, Tiffany Kay Diamond of Lynchburg, Virginia, and David Alan Diamond and his wife Claire of Lynchburg, Virginia.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 14th, at 1:00pm at First Christian Church in Lamont, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in the Lamont Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Roberts and Son Funeral Home in Blackwell.
