Republican for Dec 20, 1923:
Sarah M Hocker was born in Kentucky, April 10, 1845, passed to her heavenly home from the home of her daughter, Mrs Clarence Arnold, in Crawfordsville, December 12, 1923, aged 78 years, 8 months and 2 days.
She moved with her parents from Kentucky to Indiana when only three or four years of age. She was united in marriage to Amos R Bramell in December 1871. To this union were born three children, B B Bramell and Alma Fowler, of Washington, DC, and Mabel Arnold, of Crawfordsville. Besides these, she leaves six grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers, John and Benjamin O Hocker, and two sisters, Miss May Hocker and Mrs John Hamilton, other more distant relatives and a multitude of friends.
She was devoted to her family, friends and the church.
She was very anxious to go to Washington recently that she might have the privilege of seeing her children and grandchildren and was happy in the privilege of having her family altogether before she should be called to her home eternal. After having seen her children and grandchildren and suffering great weakness, she was anxious to return to the home of her daughter in Crawfordsville.
She united with the Methodist Episcopal church many years ago and lived an earnest, devoted, consistent Christian life and, though was called upon to pass through the valley of the shadow of death, she feared no evil for the rod and staff of the Lord sustained her. Nearly five years ago her husband passed to the life beyond. Since then she has lived with her children and was ever welcome to any of their homes. Henceforth her family and friends will be thinking of the home over there.
Funeral by her pastor, Rev UG Abbott, at the Lizton ME church, Dec 14, 1923
