David was born to Marion Peter and Orva Opal Blumenshine Hockenbury. He married Margo F. Klepper on Jan. 21, 1977, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Patrick Hockenbury, Jennifer Hockenbury, Don (Lisa) Owens, Frank (Amanda) Owens and Michelle (Kevin) Leggons; his brothers, Gene (Emy) Hockenbury, Linden (Susie) Hockenbury and Bill (Pat) Hockenbury; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and two sisters.
He was a United States Army veteran. He received a Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam.
He was a machinist for Caterpillar Inc. for 32 years, retiring in 2003.
