She was born January 15, 1917, in Star Junction, Pa., the daughter of John and Sarah (Morris) Hixenbaugh.
Nellie loved flowers and gardening, but she had a passion for music and dancing.
She also loved to collect porcelain dolls.
Before moving to Michigan she was member of Grandma Honey's at the Uniontown Senior Center.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Wilson Bowden on April 30, 1975, two sisters, Grace Dixon and Thelma Filak, and two brothers, John C. Hixenbaugh and Floyd Hixenbaugh.
She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Devona Mae "Dee" Unice of Uniontown, Pa., Mrs. Betty Lou Richey and husband, Edward L. Richey Jr., of Livonia, Michigan, and Ms. Patti Jo Weimer of Arundel, Maine; two sons: Wilson "Butch" Bowden and wife Annette, of Livonia, Michigan, and Thomas L. Bowden and wife, Delores, of Canton, Michigan; 13 grandchildren: T. R. Unice Jr., Jeffrey A. Unice, Linda Jo Chalmers, Edward L. Richey III, William R. Richey, Mark H. Richey, Craig A. Weimer, Amy Jo Shuckhart, Christine A. Weimer, Andrea F. Martinez, Breeann Irene Bowden, Matthew Bowden and Daniel Bowden; also 22 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Friends will be received in the THOMAS M. DOLFI FUNERAL HOME, 136 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, April 27, until 10 a.m., the hour of Service with Pastor Jay Hurley of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Smithfield, Pa., officiating.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
