Etta Epsie Hinshaw Bird was the oldest of nine children born to Ira Emmett Hinshaw and Nannie Helen Jacks. She was the only one of her siblings born in Jackson County, where generations of her father and mother's families had called home for many years.

Epsie received the the baptism of the Holy Ghost as a young girl in the first Free Holiness Church in Big Cove, Alabama. She was later baptized in the Flint River by Bro. Emmett N. Drake.

Epsie married J.C. Bird, son of Joseph Clark and Ina Florence McPeters Bird, on May 16, 1947, in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama. To this union was born two children - Donald Gene (1951) and Cathy Lujuan (1952).

In the 1950's, J.C. and Epsie moved to Florida, where Epsie was one of the founding members of the Davenport Free Holiness Church. They remained in Florida for many years before returning to Madison County in the late 1970's, after which time she was a member of the Riverton Holiness Church.

She was a precious woman, who loved her family, her friends, and most of all, her Savior.

Epsie Hinshaw Bird, age 93, of Huntsville, died on Thursday September 24, 2015.
Mrs. Bird was a member of Riverton Holiness Church, where she served the Lord for 79 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Bird; her daughter, Cathy Bird; her parents, Emmett and Nannie Jacks Hinshaw; her brothers, Lawson, Lester, and Ray Hinshaw; and her sisters, Mary Long and Dean Young.
Mrs. Bird is survived by her son, Donald Bird and wife Nancy; her grandsons, Joe and Douglas Bird; her sisters, Opal Craig, Bertie Stapler, and Fay Lohenitz; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Sunday September 27, 2015 at 11 am in the chapel of Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville with Bro. William Cantrell and Bro. Shannon Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in Green Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday September 26th from 5pm until 8pm at the funeral home.
