Helen Catherine Baker, 92, of Knightstown, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012 in Indianapolis. She was born December 9, 1919 in Rush County the daughter of Samuel N. and Leila E. (Thrall) Hiner.

Helen was a 1937 graduate of Kennard High School and was a homemaker. She was a member and past president of Greensboro Homemakers Club where she received Homemaker of the Year and was Reserve Grand Champion – Snacks Category in 1990 in the annual Courier Times cooking contest. She was a member of the Cadiz Christian Church where she had led Senior Saints. She was co-founder and charter member of Tujunga Christian Church in Southern California. She enjoyed cooking, crafts, sewing, gardening, quilting, and working with elderly people. She was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory four children: Charlotte (Lloyd) Hosman of Knightstown, Norman (Bobbie) Baker of Greenfield, Kenneth (Rosie) Baker of Knightstown, Pamela (Richard) Simmons of Meadows Place, TX; grandchildren: Susan (David) Gardea of Indianapolis, Ruth (Allen) Arnold of Greenfield, Amie (Mark) Oakes of Greenfield, David Baker of Knightstown, Beth (Allen) Patrick of Ft. Wayne, Marti (Tom) Jett of Lewisville, Michael (Erica) Noyes of Sugarland, TX, Laura (Bryan) Currier of Porter, TX, Jeffrey (Katie) Noyes of Sugarland, TX; 3 step-grandchildren: Lisa (Eric) Montaghami of Costa Mesa, CA, Christopher (Dana) Hosman of Hampton, VA, Timothy (Casey) Hosman of Cambria, CA; 27 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; brothers: James (Helen) Baker of Queens Creek, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Willard E. Baker; a son: Frank Samuel "Sam" Baker; grandson: Tom Stange; brother: Richard Hiner.

Services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, November 23, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Reverend Jeff Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
