Our dear father, Howard Daynes Hinckley, age 89, passed away peacefully March 29, 2013 at the home of his daughter. He was born September 30, 1923 in Salt Lake to Eugene Callister and Jean Lyon Daynes Hinckley. Howard was raised by his father and step-mother Mary Alice Walker. He attended South and East High Schools and the University of Utah. He served in the Army during the latter part of World War II, in the European Theater. After an honorable discharge from the army, he served in the Northeastern mission for the LDS Church. After his mission he started various businesses, before attending Barber school at Salt Lake Trade Tech. He worked in the Barber Shop in the Florsheim Shoe Store downtown. He then bought a building on 7th East and 7th South and started The Dollar Barber shop that he owned and operated for 47 years.

Howard married Charlene Daley on June 20, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they managed the shop and various apartment buildings. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, droll sense of humor, and generous tendencies.

He is survived by his daughter, Dayna Atherley and son Howard Brent Hinckley and two grandchildren, Adam and Alexandera Atherley. Sister Jane Lauth and a brother Thomas Hinckley; and niece Kathleen Hinckley.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South. Friends and family may visit from 9:30 to 10:40 a.m. prior to services. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
