Mrs. Emma Hill Bourne Dead

Mrs. Emma Hill Bourne for 19 years State president of the New Jersey Women's Christian Temperance Association, and often a visitor to Plainfield, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George F. Dickinson, 73 Early Street, Morristown, N.J., after two years of failing health.

The funeral was held this afternoon in charge of Rev. Dr. John E. Charlton, of the Marrow Memorial Church, of Maplewood, N.J., of which she was a member, and Rev. Edgar R. Schleuter, of the Morristown Methodist Church. Interment in Rosedale Cemetery, Orange.

Surviving, besides Mrs. Dickinson, are two daughters, Mrs. James L. Dexter, of Morristown, and Mrs. Charles W. Kinsey of South Orange; a son, John Hill Bourne, of Detroit, and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Bourne was the widow of Henry James Bourne and daughter of John and Mary Barnet Hill, who were identified with the history of Newark, a hundred years ago. She was born in Newark in 1841, of Huguenot and Scotch ancestry. Her grandmother was a Covenanter.

For years she was a teacher in the Newark public schools. She got her inspiration for W.C.T.U., work from her mother, who was the first president of the first New Jerry State W.C.T.U. When Mrs. Bourne resigned as president of the W.C.T.U. in Newark, in 1910, after nineteen years as head of the State organization, she was presented with a diamond ring in token of esteem.
