BOOTHBAY HARBOR - Emma Ferris Hikel, 92, of Boothbay Harbor died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at St. Andrews Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor.
Mrs. Hikel was born Sept. 21, 1911, in Waterville, a daughter of Ames and Anna George Ferris.

Mrs. Hikel spent her entire adult life in the hospitality industry. She and her brother Charles Ferris owned and operated the Bob-In Restaurant, the Ferris Arms Hotel, and the Hotel Emma in Waterville. In the 1960s, Emma moved to Boothbay Harbor, where she established Emma's Guest House, a bed and breakfast, which she managed until she went into the nursing home in the fall of 2002. Emma also worked for many years in Clearwater, Fla., during the winter months, where she managed a dinner theatre and restaurant.

She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Hikel, of Waterville.

Survivors include her sister, Diane Fjeldheim of Waterville; her brother, Abraham Ferris of Florida; and nine nieces and nephews. Emma was especially close to her friends Debbie and Daren Graves of Boothbay Harbor, and Carol and Peter Stratton of Boothbay Harbor.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, with the Rev. Allan Wells-Goodwin officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove St., Waterville, with the Rev. Sam Najjar officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Emma Hikel's memory may be made to the Boothbay Region Garden Club, for continued beautification of her beloved community.
