Cynthia Sue (Hicks) Askvig, 58 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Cynthia Sue Hicks Askvig, 58, died peacefully Sunday, May 15, 2011, at home. A resident of Colorado Springs, Cindy taught psychiatric nursing for 38 years, 20 of which were at Pikes Peak Community College. Cindy was born Sept. 15, 1952, in Joliet, Ill., to Forrest and Jerrene (Peterson) Hicks. She grew up playing the piano, organ and clarinet. She married her devoted husband, Tom Askvig, on June 15, 1984, and together they moved to Colorado in 1985. She is survived by her husband and daughters, Jaime and Julia. Leading by example, she shared with them the gift of music and the importance of education, shaping them into dynamic and earnest women. Through many years of service, Cindy has earned numerous awards including Faculty Member of the Year and Educator of the Year at the State Nurses Convention and was nominated for the Florence Nightingale Award. Memorial service at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 26, in Unger-Horner Funeral Home, Rochelle, Ill., with visitation from noon service time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to hospice of donors choice. Burial in Lawnridge Cemetery, Rochelle.
