Marie was born March 25, 1914 in Distant, she was a daughter of the late Philip W. and Emma Maude (Nulph) Hetrick.
Marie was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting afghans for all of her family and many friends. She was a faithful caregiver to her husband, Wilmer, until his death in 1994.
Gram will be missed by all who loved her dearly and especially Niecie who devoted so much time and love for many years when Gram needed it.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Vandegraft and husband Jim, of Danvers, IL; son, Gary Aikins and wife Charlotte of Annville; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by two sons, Curtis and Richard Aikins; daughter, Gail Platt; four brothers; three sisters; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Aikins will be held, December 10, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Peters Funeral Home, Gettysburg, with Pastor Ed Brower officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be the 10th from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. The burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg.
