"Albert Hesselgrave attended school in Carthage, Missouri, where he and Adah Hodges met in high school.

"After their marriage, Albert and Adah lived in St. Louis then awhile in Chicago. Albert was employed by Brinks Express in Chicago [reportedly his uncle, Frank Allen, was president].

"In 1936 they returned to Carthage where, together with Adah's parents, they purchased all of the stock in the Park Cemetery Association. (Timothy Regan, Albert's [maternal] grandfather, had originally established this cemetery in the 1870's.) After the death of Adah's parents, Albert and Adah Hesselgrave became the sole owners of Park Cemetery. Deciding that the best way to run the business was to make their home there. They established a comfortable residence on the grounds of the cemetery.

"The cemetery consists of over 80 acres with some 15,000 graves, a monument shop, and mausoleum. After Albert's death in 1972, Mrs. Hesselgrave continued living in her home at Park Cemetery and managed the business with a staff of three and four employees until her death in
2000.

"Albert B. Hesselgrave served in World War II as a supply Sergeant in the Blackhawk Division. He served under General George Patton at the Battle of the Bulge.

"Albert and Adah were members of the Church of Christ. Albert belonged to the American Legion, the Carthage Lions Club, the Toastmasters Club, and he was active in other local and state organizations. Mr. and Mrs. Hesselgrave both liked to travel.

"There were no children."
