Mrs. Herring was born Jan. 3, 1957, in Harrisonburg, and was a daughter of Loring R. Cook and Georgia Cordle Cook of Elkton.
She was a sergeant in the Army and was the administrative assistant for the Economic Development and Partnership Programs at James Madison University.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband of 12 years, Jeff P. Herring; two daughters, Brianna Marie Herring and Kristin Rebecca Herring, all of Elkton; and three sisters, Alisa Cook, Kama Cook Miller and Anita Cook Westfall, all of Harrisonburg.
The Rev. Brad Lewis will conduct the funeral 1 p.m. Monday at the Blue Ridge Independent Church in Elkton. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
