Son of the late August Ludwig Herde and Susan George Herde and widower of Leah Ruth Morris (married September 1, 1931, in Howard, KS), he became a G.E. dealer and operated Herde's Electric in Billings, OK, a business that later achieved the distinction of being the oldest G.E. dealership in the nation. He attended Billings Christian Church. He was survived two sons, Morris Ray Herde and Dale Francis Herd; two daughters, Clarice Grace Everhart and Loretta Sue Myers; two sisters, Lois Jane Russell and Doris Lucille Ratliff; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren and extended family of relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, four brothers and one sister. His funeral was held January 9, 2009, at the Billings Christian Church with Kent Reubell officiating.
