ARTHUR CARRIER HERBERT
"Art or Dick"
Born June 15, 1927, the son of Bernard Arthur Herbert and Pearl Marie Carrier, died after a short illness on April 1, 2017 at his home in New Market, Virginia.
Mr. Herbert left his wife of 13 years, Pamelia Parker Hennessey; stepson, Todd S. Warming (Patricia) of Liberty, Texas; one brother, William P. Herbert (Katherine) of Fairfax, Virginia and their children, William P. Jr, and (Pam,) Robert J. (Sandie), Michael J., Linda M. Poreda; many grand-nephews and nieces, as well as step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Herbert was born at Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington, DC, and grew up in Bethesda, MD. He attended Bethesda Chevy Chase High School and Peabody School of Music. He retired from Hughes Simulation Systems, Inc. as a Principal Design Engineer in 1992 and working on the MH-53E Minesweeping Simulator, after a lengthy career that began as a draftsman working for Melpar in Falls Church, Virginia in the early 1950's.
From the age of 13 and until being drafted, he was part of the band known as "Al Massey and his Orchestra", which played locally and throughout much of the eastern United States during World War II. He also played Clarinet and Saxophone with Frankie Masters and Russ Morgan Bands. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1947 where he served as an Entertainment Specialist. Mr. Herbert was previously married to Roberta Miller Warming, who predeceased him in 1998.
He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery. No services are planned yet. Memorial donations, in his name may be made to the The New Market Rescue Squad or the New Market Library.
