Joe A. Herbelin
Joe A. Herbelin, 90, of Lorena, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014, at his home. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 30, at Waco Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, January31, with Pastor Charles Howard officiating at First Baptist Church of Lorena. Burial at Rosemound Cemetery following the service with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Joe was born in the Tokio, Texas area to Della Lassetter and George Herbelin on April 23, 1923. He quit school at an early age to help support his family. As an adult he worked various jobs including the VA Hospital and as an independent home improvement contractor for most of his life. He retired when he was 74. He loved his family and sports they included Baylor sports, the Texas Rangers, deer hunting and golf. He made a hole in one on his 70th birthday and deer hunted until he was 87 years old. He was a good father, brother, son, pee paw, and friend to all he met.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary; wives, Oleta and Dollie; sisters, Hortense and Rachel; and brothers, J B and George.
He is survived by his children, Donna and Brett Benton, Ron and Jan Herbelin, Sue and Edd Clark, and Jean Herbelin; sisters, Welda Stanley and Mildred Uptmore; grandchildren, Rene Weir, Deanne Hill, Brett and Brad Benton, Sherri Bone, Dianna McGaughy, Ronnie, Rick and Jeff Herbelin, Amy Meachum, Derek and Erik Clark, Travis Herbelin; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Noi Bridger for all her love and support she has given to all of us over the years.
