Effie was the daughter of George and Margaret M. Ralston Henton. Her father died close to a year and a half after she was born. Her mother then married James M. Nichols.

As young children Effie and her half brother "Everett" Nichols accompanied a wagon train to Oregon with their parents James M. and "Maggie" (Ralston) Henton Nichols. "Everett" and Effie walked all the way beside the wagon. One would assume their sister, Elzora walked with them.

Effie and George N. Beaman were married on October 8, 1886 in Bourbon County. Their children were Anna Pauline and George "Ray".
