Services for Dessie Pearl Baird, 79, Linwood, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary with the Rev. Charles Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Sidney Cemetery in Linwood.

Mrs. Baird died Friday, June 21, 1991, at a Kansas City, Mo., hospital.

She was born March 14, 1912, in Wetmore, the daughter of Les and May Leach Hendershot. She attended and graduated from Goff public schools. She then received a teacher's degree from Emporia State Teachers College.

Mrs. Baird taught country school in Goff for five years before moving to Linwood in 1943. She owned and operated the May Fabric Co. in Linwood from 1960 to earlier this year, when she retired.

Mrs. Baird was a member of the Jehovah's Witness congregation in Lawrence.

She married Shelley Baird in 1931. He died in 1970.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Fields, Richmond, Mo., and Avis Duncan, Simi Valley, Calif.; three sons, Robert Baird, St. Joseph, Mo., Gilbert Baird, Houston, and Leland Baird, Salt Lake City; a brother, Lawrence Hendershot, Tuliary, Calif.; a sister, Marlene Holiday, Silver City, N.M.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
