Mrs. Hemphill died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at her home.
She was born Dec. 12, 1913, in McPherson, the daughter of Harry and Lillian
(Fox) Colburn. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1931 and from Christ
Hospital School of Nursing in Topeka in 1939, when she moved from Topeka to
Lawrence.
Mrs. Hemphill was a registered nurse at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, a private
nurse and a homemaker. She was a member of Mackey Merry Makers, Oak Ridge
Birthday Club, Trinity Lutheran Church and an alumni of Kansas State Nurses
Assn.
She married Arthur Hemphill on March 12, 1939, in McPherson. He died Nov. 11,
1979.
Survivors include a son, Michael Hemphill, Lawrence; two daughters, Judith
Hundley, Eudora, and Linda Buttron, Nortonville; five grandchildren; two
stepgrandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
