Josephine H. Barnes, 77, of 535 Kraiss Ave., died at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 1994, in Chambersburg Hospital, following a seven-month illness.
Born May 3, 1916, in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Herbert L. and Mary Margaret Lautenslager Heller.
She was a life member of First Lutheran Church and a member of Welca, Service Committee and Memorial Committee. She taught Sunday School for 45 years; served on the church council and as a volunteer for Vacation Bible School; and bowled for the church's B Team.
Mrs. Barnes was a member of Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion Auxiliary, American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 2287 and Golden Age Club.
She worked for the Borough of Chambersburg.
Her husband, Carl Rife Barnes, died June 26, 1964.
Surviving are two daughters, Dawn (Mrs. Richard) Gates of Chambersburg and Carol Potts of Langhorn; two grandchildren: two sisters, Jane Walter and Julia I. Elter, both of Chambersburg; and nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday in First Lutheran Church. The Revs. Charles M. Heaps adn Karen Minncih-Sadler will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home Inc. and one hour prior to the service in the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, 43 W. Washington St., or to American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., both Chambersburg 17201.
