"PREFECT OF STUDIES IS DEAD

Beloved Priest of St. Vincent's College Succumbs to Long Attack of Ill Health

Death yesterday claimed Rev. Denis J. Healy, C. M., prefect of studies at St. Vincent's college and one of the most prominent and beloved priests of the diocese. Father Healy had been ill for several years and for the past few months had been in a serious condition. He was removed to the Sisters' hospital about ten days ago. He died at 7:10 o'clock, surrounded by priests of the college and the Sisters of Charity after having received the last sacraments of the church.

Father Healy was born November 19, 1878, in New Orleans, and was educated in St, Joseph's parochial school, later going to St. Mary's seminary, Perryville, Mo. On accounts of ill health, he was sent to California, and on December 19, 1896, he was ordained to the priesthood at St. Vincent's church by Bishop Montgomery.

For the past six years Father Healy had acted as prefect of studies and was much beloved by the students of the college and also the parishioners. He was considered a man of extraordinary ability, his specialty being English literature and mathematics, in which lines he was said to have no superior in the state. He was the originator of the "S. V. C. Student," the college paper, and was formerly director of the St. Vincent's lyceum.

The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock from St. Vincent's church, when Bishop Conaty will celebrate a solemn pontifical requiem mass. The interment will be at Calvary cemetery."
