DAVENPORT — Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Mitchell L. “Mitch” Hayes, 18, of Davenport, will be noon Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4105 N. Division St., Davenport. The rite of cremation will take place following the service. Inurnment will take place in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Mitch’s family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Davenport. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. that all are invited to attend.

Mitch died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, at University Hospitals, Iowa City, following a tragic vehicular accident.

Mitch was born April 20, 1997, in Davenport, a son of Lawrence E. and Martha S. (Hilbert) Hayes. Mitch graduated from North Scott High School in 2015 and took classes at Black Hawk College and was currently attending Scott Community College.

Mitch worked for North Scott Foods in Eldridge beginning in high school and continuing until the day of his passing. He truly enjoyed his job and treasured all of the friends he made while working there.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed falconry with his dad, and he cherished those times in the field. He also found great joy spending time with his many friends, meeting up at some of their favorite hangouts, including Buffalo Wild Wings. He also enjoyed playing Colt League Baseball while in high school and was looking forward to his final season this summer. He had a special place in his heart for animals and loved his many pets over the years.

Memorials may be made to University of Iowa Children’s Hospitals.

Mitch is survived by his parents, Larry and Marty Hayes, Davenport, a brother, Connor; maternal grandfather, Walter Hilbert, Davenport; paternal grandparents, Pat (Norm) Vidoni, Bettendorf, and Larry (Marilyn) Hayes, Winthrop Harbor, Ill., as well as numerous loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his beloved maternal grandmother, Joyce Hilbert. May they rest in peace.
