Karen Hawkins Egelund 1937 ~ 2004
Karen Hawkins Egelund left this earthly life and returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father on March 3. 2004, after a well-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. The memories she created will be cherished forever.
Karen was born on Sept. 3, 1937, in Logan, Utah, to Claude and Donna Hawkins. She spend her childhood in Garfield, Utah, with her parents and her sisters DeeAnn (George) Crosby and Claudia (Jesse) Johnson. Karen fell in love with and was sealed to Thomas Egelund on Feb. 14, 1958, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. During their marriage they lived in Granger, Erda and Tooele, Utah. She was a member of the LDS Church, where she served in many capacities including Relief Society president, MIA president and Primary presidency. She fulfilled a service mission with her husband. She graduated from Cyprus High School and Utah Technical College with a nursing degree. She worked as a line-o-type operator at Copper Printing, a medical transcriber for Dr. M. Baker and a nurse for Dr. C. Holt. Her family will remember her for her love of cookbooks, traveling, crocheting, caring for her grandchildren and the kindness she extended to others.
She is survived by her husband, parents, sisters and children: Sandra (Rex) Quarnberg, Kent (Julie), Marianne, John, Daniel (Huong), Kristin Shaffer; and eight beloved grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 6, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Tooele 7th Ward Chapel, 1025 W. Utah Avenue (200 North). Friends may call at Tate Mortuary on Friday from 6 to 8 in the evening and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the medical staff of Dr. Charles Holt and Dr. Anna Beck.
