Our dear Mom, Laura Hatch Voorhees, passed away November 30, 2012 in Murray, UT. Mom was born January 21, 1925 in Salt Lake City, UT. She was the daughter of Hazel Coult and Sisson Chase Hatch. On September 10, 1945, Mom married Lloyd Voorhees in the Manti Temple. She worked for Kennecott Copper for many years - starting as a part-time file clerk and becoming the executive secretary to the general manager. Through her many years of devoted church service, she held various callings. Those most dear to her heart were working with young women, serving as a temple ordinance worker and hosting at the Conference Center. Mom and Dad served an LDS mission to Frankfurt Germany 1981-82.
Mom is survived by daughters - Linda (Robert J.) Eastlick, and Sharon (Randall B.) Packer; sons , Gary L. (Joanne) Voorhees, Ronald P. (Carol) Voorhees, Phoung (Lien) Van Pham, and Hao (Truc) Pham; brothers, Jeremiah and Robert Hatch; and sister Mary Owen (Moylen) Heslop. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Carol Jean and brother Kenneth. Her family includes 20 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at 12 noon in the Little Cottonwood LDS Chapel, 1160 East Vine Street. Friends may call Monday 6 - 8 pm and Tuesday 10:30 - 11:30 am at the LDS Chapel. Internment : Larkin Sunset Gardens.
Mom embraced each day with JOY, hope, optimism and love for everyone. Over the years she penned many words to live by. One became her daily creed:
Joy in the morning
Patience by day
Peace when the night falls
God's touch when I pray
Our most profound love and gratitude to the Intermountain Homecare Hospice team. Your tender care and support was our daily blessing.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Primary Children's Medical Center or a charity of your choice in Mom's name.
