MARIE [HERVE] HARVEY BELLANDE
Marie Harvey [Herve] (1840-1894) was born March 6, 1840 at Back Bay, now D'Iberville, Mississippi to Pierre Harvey [Herve] (1810-1893), a French immigrant seaman, and Celina [Zeline] Moran [Morin] (1811-1883), the daughter of Joseph Morin II and Louise Ladner. Pierre Harvey had become acquainted with Antoine V. Bellande (1829-1918), also a French immigrant seaman from Marseille, France. Probably their French language and culture as well as their common bond as seamen brought them together. Regardless, Antoine V. Belllande married Marie Harvey, the eldest daughter of Pierre Harvey and Celina Morin in July, 1866. The ceremony took place at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Biloxi. The Reverend Henri Georget recorded the following concerning their nuptials in Book 2, page 109, Act 838:

On July 9, 1866, with no impediments I interrogated Antoine Bellande, sailor, son of Joseph Bellande and Celina Vesianne, his lawful wife, born in France (Department des Bouches du Rhone) residing at Back Bay, and Marie Hervy daughter of Pierre Hervy and Celina Morin, his lawful wife, born and living at Back Bay. Their consent being expressed, I joined them in Matrimony by words in presence of known witnesses: Silvestre Fayard and Rosa Husley.

Marie Harvey Bellande gave birth to five children probably in North Biloxi: Joseph A. Bellande (1868-1961) m. Rosa A. Ramos and Marie A. Barthes (1876-1961); Antoine V. Bellande Jr. (1869-1924); Pierre Bellande (1871-1933) m. Alice Caillavet (1872-1955) ; Ida Bellande (1874-1948) m. Edward E. Gossow and Clarence Galle Sr. (1879-1931); and Auguste Bellande (1876-1953) m. Estella Amelia Hernandez and Mary Ellen Christovich Wagatha (1875-1946).

By 1880, the Bellande family had relocated from Back Bay to Reynoir Street in Biloxi, Mississippi. Their home was on the east side of Reynoir Street south of the L&N Railroad. Antoine V. Bellande worked as a bar pilot at Ship Island guiding brigantines and barks across the Ship Island bar to safe anchorage on the northwest end of the island. These ships loaded lumber cut from the rich yellow pine forest of south Mississippi and delivered their cargo to Europe and Latin America for construction.

Marie Morin Bellande expired in Biloxi on March 13, 1894. Her corporal remains were interred in the Bellande family burial plot in the Biloxi Cemetery. Antoine V. Bellande married Marie Catchot (1861-1931) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi and relocated to Jackson Avenue in Ocean Springs. He passed on June 10, 1918 and his remains were interred in the Evergreen Cemetery in Ocean Springs.
