She was a graduate of Selma High School and was a punch press operator at Central Manufacturing, owned and operated Bess Taco Wagon, and sold Tupperware. She brought Mexican food to Muncie and had served Mexican food at the Indiana State Fair for over 35 years.
Mrs. Bess attended Southside Church of the Nazarene.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, David Keith Bess, who died in 2004; her parents, Albert and Rosella Tomlinson; her sister, Marilyn Knotts; and her granddaughter, Heather Pepiton.
Services for Mrs. Bess will be 1 p.m. Monday at Parson Mortuary. Rev. Tracy Gorman and Rev. Keith Kelly will officiate. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Parson Mortuary and an hour prior to services on Monday.
