Helen Dailey, 88, of Bloomington, Ind., died Dec. 18, 1995, at Meadowood Retirement Community in Bloomington. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Meadowood in Bloomington, Ind. The Rev. Byron Bangert of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Entombment will be at Crown Hill Mausoleum ill Indianapolis, Ind. Mrs. Dailey was born Nov.2,1907, in Hammond, Ind., the daughter of William C. and Belle (Bloomhoff) Harrison. She grew up Indianapolis and attended Tudor Hall High School and Wellesley College. On April 26,1930, she married attorney George S. Dailey in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death in 1981 in Clearwater, Fla. Mrs. Dailey was a member of the
music faculty in Bay View from 1947-52. Although she considered her musical activities an avocation rather than a profession, she had played the harp since she was 10
years old and studied with some of the outstanding harpists in the country. Her musical training included a year at Wellesley College studying harp under Alfred Holy, first harpist of the Boston Symphony. She also studied with Mildred Dilling in New York and with Albert Solvi in Chicago. In addition to her ensemble and solo work in Indianapolis, she spent a great deal of time offering music
therapy to mental patients in psychiatric wards of veterans' hospitals and to hundreds of children hospitalized with polio. Mrs. Dailey was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, an honorary music sorority, and the Friday
Musicale group. She enjoyed arts and crafts and needlework, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bloomington, Ind. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy "Dede" Bates and her husband, Jay, of Petoskey, and Margaret Kuehnnann of Ambler, Pa.; one son, Dr. Frank H. Dailey, of Columbus, Miss.; nine grandchildren,10 great-grandchildren; and one nephew. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Dailey was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Shimer. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Meadowood Memorial Fund. (bio by: tammy)
