Ethel Josephine Walton Harris, 96, of Charlottesville passed away on Sunday November 23, 2014 at the home of her granddaughter in Dinwiddie, Virginia..

Born January 5, 1918 in Albemarle County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Stonewall Jackson Walton and Ethel Coleman Walton. She was also preceded in death by her husband Clivis Merle Harris, Sr.; a daughter, Laverne Harris Yonce; and by her sisters, and a son in-law, Dr. Ivan Yonce.

She worked for many years at Centel as a Telephone Operator, a lifetime member of the Blue Ridge Doll Club, and was a founding member of Cherry Avenue Christian Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Jo Franks of Morehead City, NC; a son, Clivis Harris, Jr. and his wife, Pearl, of Palmyra; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday December 6, 2014 at the Cherry Avenue Christian Church with Mr. Stan Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:30 pm on Friday December 5, 2014 at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that any desired memorial contributions be made to Cherry Avenue Christian Church, Children’s Program at 1720 Cherry Ave, Charlottesville, VA 22903.

The family extends special thanks to family, friends, and home healthcare, and hospice staff who provided love and support during this difficult time during the past few years.
