Martha Harrelson Alford, 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, December 30, 2010 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Martha was born in Columbus County, NC on January 21, 1920 to the late Don and Sarah Mills Harrelson. She is preceded in death by her husband Hopkin Alford, and siblings, Don M. Harrelson, Mack I. Harrelson and Helen Barnhill.
Martha was a hair stylist for many years and owner of Martha's Hair Fashions in Wilmington. She was also a devoted member of Sunset Park Baptist Church where she was very active through the years. Martha enjoyed many hobbies such as painting, quilting, needlework and creating hand made Christmas ornaments. She had a very caring and generous spirit and also considered herself so blessed. She found her strength through her loving family and many friends.
She is survived by daughters, Martha Davis and husband Berl of Bluffton, SC and Gloria Jean Floyd of Florence, SC; three grandchildren, sister, Mary Rose Harrelson and husband, Keith of Green Sea, SC; many nieces and nephews all of who she held dear.
A memorial service will be held at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel on Monday, January 3, 2011 with visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 pm and the service at 2:00 pm with Rev. Chris Wroten. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sunset Park Baptist Church, 231 Central Blvd., Wilmington, NC 28401.
