Zenobia Jane Sutherland Harper, 92, resident here for nearly 60 years, died at an Idaho Falls hospital Saturday, December 11, 1965, following a lengthy illness.
She is the last member of the John and Ellen C. Nicholson Sutherland family of Holladay, Utah, born March 7, 1874, one of four brothers and two sisters.
On December 3, 1896, she married George Harper, a son of pioneer Charles Alfred Harper and Harriet Taylor. For ten years they resided in the Sutherland home where she assisted her father in the care of her invalid mother.
In mid-March of 1906, with their four little daughters, they came to the Idaho homestead three miles west of Rigby. Here she devoted full time with her husband to the farming interests of their 60 acres, and the rearing and educating of five daughters and two sons. Her husband died September 15, 1929, and from that time to her accidental fall in August of 1959, she contributed to public and civic service in many ways.
She was active in charity relief work at Bybee, stake genealogical board member; counselor in the Bybee Ward Relief Society presidency; ward organist and teacher of auxiliary classes; Rigby Stake Primary board member; secretary and treasurer of the Stake Genealogical Committee; secretary of the Harper Genealogical Association; and in 1945 set apart as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She was also charter member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Rigby Camp.
Mrs. Harper is noted for her lyrics and her participation in the singing Mother Chorus groups of the Bybee Ward and Idaho Falls Second, Fourth and Seventh Ward Relief Societies.
A son, Alvin George, 20 months, preceded her in death. Her survivors are: Mrs. Herbert J. Morris (Norma) and Mrs. Clifford M. Bright (Ruth), of Rigby; Mrs. G. T. Woods (Vilate) of Prescott, Arizona, Mrs. Orral S. Luke (Marjorie) of Bakersfield, California, Mrs. Walter F. Tannler (Eleanor) of Portland, Oregon, Murray C. Harper of Moses Lake, Washington, and Harvey W. Harper of Los Angeles, California.
There are 23 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Rigby 1st and 4th Wards Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 1965.
Interment will be at the Pioneer Cemetery in the family plot beside her husband and son under the direction of the Eckersell Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the Eckersell Mortuary Monday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.
