BENJAMIN F. HARNEY (1837-1932) Indiana

Born 27 May 1837 (per death record), at Moscow, Rush county, Indiana, the son of Samuel Harney Jr. and his first wife Miss Prine. After the death of his mother Benjamin was raised by Andrew & Bridget Prine, and his brother John, was raised by Mathew & Elizabeth Prine, who appear to be his maternal grandparents. Their father, Samuel Harney Jr married Nancy Admire and had additional children.

Benjamin served in the Civil War as private, 3d Indiana Calvary, Company F. Rgt:2840.

His description is noted in his military pension file: Fair complexion, gray eyes, dark hair, 5'8" tall, 140 lbs. Disability: Fracture right Parietal bone, Pterygium left eye. Contracted: 17 Sep 1862, Antietam, MD. Relative: Thomas Harney, brother, at Lexington, Missouri, according to Soldier's Home record.

Occupation: farmer. Benjamin married Leander "Anna" Adams, at Anderson, Madison co., Indiana, October 1874. The records burned with the courthouse about 1880s, but this is in his Military Pension File. They had a child
*Alma, born the summer of 1877.
His wife preceded him in death.

Benjamin lived into his 90s and in his old age he suffered general senile debility with dementia, requiring considerable aid in eating, dressing, etc. Military payment cards stop in 1925. Benjamin died 9 Apr 1932 (death record). He is buried at Summitville, Indiana. His niece and only heir was listed as Mrs. Olive Connely.
