She was the daughter of the late Brady "Toonie" Harley and Mildred Williams Harley. The family moved from Neeses to Orangeburg, where the children attended Orangeburg schools. She attended and graduated from Orangeburg High School in 1955 where she loved playing on the basketball team, a love she carried with her for the rest of her life on and off the court. She was an avid Duke Bluedevils Fan.

After working as the sewing room bookkeeper and while raising three children, she and her husband, James, operated Davis Septic Tank Service for over 39 years with two of their sons and one grandson. She had been a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Orangeburg since it was built. She served on a number of the church committees as long as her health allowed.

Survivors include her husband, James H. Davis, Sr. of Orangeburg; three sons, James H. (Lisa) Davis, Jr., Brady Edward (Lori) Davis and Vernon Patrick Davis, all of Orangeburg; one sister, Vonnell Pensel of Orangeburg; grandchildren, James B. (Stephanie) Allman of North Carolina, James Austin Davis of Orangeburg, Justin, Corey, Daniel, Nicholas, Rebecca Davis and Ace Rose, all of Orangeburg, Cory Wood of Lee City, TX, Robert Wood of Norfolk, VA, Rebecca Bornscheuer of Lee City, TX; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at at Northside Baptist Church in Orangeburg, with the Rev. John O'Cain, the Rev. Dr. Shane Stutzman and the Rev. Jim Parnell officiating.

Pallbearers were John Pensel, Danny Pensel, Jim Mixson, Steve Shaw, Wade Harley, Johnny Harley, D. J. Pensel and Ryan Pensel.

Honorary pallbearers were the Debbie Knight Sunday School Class and the Class of 1955 of Orangeburg High School.
